Wielu kontrahentów nie zdaje sobie sprawy, jak prawidłowo należy przechowywać klej przemysłowy, a jest to poważny błąd. Niepoprawnie przechowywany klej może ulec zniszczeniu, stracić swoje właściwości i zostając nieświadomie użyty do produkcji może sprawić wiele kłopotów i szkód finansowych. Dlatego chcielibyśmy przybliżyć zasady właściwego składowania klejów przemysłowych. Zwracamy tu uwagę, że specyficzne typy klejów mogą wymagać specjalnych metod przechowywania.
Kleje wodne to produkty najbardziej wrażliwe na warunki atmosferyczne. Kleje te powinny być przechowywane w dodatnich temperaturach, najlepiej pomiędzy 10 – 25 ºC. Ważne jest aby chronić je przed przechłodzeniem. Przechowywanie kleju w ujemnych temperaturach spowoduje, iż straci on swoje właściwości klejące. Taki klej zmieni też swój wygląd fizyczny i po otwarciu wiadra zmiana ta będzie widoczna już gołym okiem.
Kleje gorącotopliwe (hotmelt), zarówno te występujące w postaci granulek, lasek oraz kostek – PSA, nie wymagają specjalnych warunków magazynowania. Przechowuje się je w normalnych warunkach magazynowych. Kleju tego nie można jednak przechowywać na zewnątrz, w nie zadaszonych miejscach. Kleje pakowane w tekturowe kartony łatwo mogą ulec zamoknięciu. Kleje w granulkach pakowane są w foliowych, perforowanych (dziurkowanych) workach, do których podczas deszczu może dostać się woda. Mokry klej nie może zostać użyty. Wsypanie mokrego kleju do zbiornika topiącego może powodować powstanie piany, strzelanie (podobne jak przy dostaniu się wody do rozgrzanego oleju) oraz ogólnie zaburzyć właściwości klejące oraz pracę urządzenia. Jeśli dojdzie do zamoczenia kleju należy taki worek z klejem otworzyć, worki rozłożyć pojedynczo i pozostawić do czasu osuszenia, odparowania wody z worka. Kleju nie należy również przechowywać bezpośrednio na słońcu. Wysoka temperatura, jak i różnice temperatur powodują, iż klej w worku zbryla się (skleja się). Nie ma to wpływu na właściwości klejące, wymaga jednak dłuższego czasu roztapiania i może spowodować trudności z umieszczaniem go w aplikatorze. Dlatego, gdyby tak się stało zalecamy fizyczne rozdrobnienie kleju przed jego użyciem.
Te same zasady obowiązują podczas transportu, a w szczególności podczas przeładunku. Hotmelt składowany lub przeładowywany w nie zadaszonych miejscach na zewnątrz, może ulec zamoknięciu. Natomiast zimą klej wodny wystawiony na mróz lub niewłaściwie transportowany może ulec zniszczeniu. Ponadto, zimą transport kleju wodnego powinien odbywać się specjalną izotermą. Dlatego po dostawie kleju, zaleca się dokładne obejrzenie palety z klejem.
Zarówno w przypadku klejów wodnych, jak i gorącotopliwych ważne jest, aby kleje były przechowywane w oryginalnych, zamkniętych opakowaniach i zostały użyte przed upływem terminu ważności. Kleje gorącotopliwe mają roczny termin przydatności, natomiast wodne tylko pół roku.
Równie istotne jest przechowywanie rozpoczętego wiadra /worka kleju. Należy dbać o to, by wiadro było przykryte wieczkiem, a worki zostały zapakowane tak, aby uniemożliwić dostanie się do nich pyłu, kurzu czy też innych śmieci. Takie drobinki mogą bardzo łatwo przeniknąć do kleju, a w konsekwencji wyrządzić wiele szkód.
Przechowywanie klejów przemysłowych jest bardzo istotne na całej drodze, jaką muszą one pokonać nim trafią do użytku u klienta końcowego.
Dlatego tak ważne jest, aby pilnować tego na każdym etapie, począwszy od samej produkcji kleju, podczas transportu, magazynowania u dostawcy oraz odbiorcy.
Pamiętajmy, że małe zaniedbanie w tej kwestii może doprowadzić do poważnych problemów produkcyjnych.
